What is VillageSpeak: ?It?s a place where I meet friends after a long day in my home office, a place where we can kick-back,? catch-up, and enjoy learning about what?s going on in town from informed Island leaders.? ~Ronnie W., Software Developer
VillageSpeak is going on six months old, and people are talking, trying to size it up, figure it out. What?s VillageSpeak, really?
VillageSpeak is different.
Foremost, VillageSpeak focuses on local issues and is nonpartisan. It offers only questions for consideration, no answers. There is no pre-defined political, social, or environmental agenda.
Instead, VillageSpeak is an open platform for intelligent discourse about Island matters, a place where people can come together, socialize, and consider many sides of our town issues. It is also a place to unwind after a long day, connect, and meet up with local friends, and share one-to-one, in comfortable conversation.
We frequently add arts, humor and entertainment to our meetings, in support of our town culture. The arts provide room for abstract thought, opening our minds to innovative ideas and new possibilities.
VillageSpeak encourages diversity, where people really listen, really hear what the other side has to say. We encourage thoughtful feedback and we care deeply about our Island community and the peaceful resolutions it achieves.
Each VillageSpeak is moderated by a different, highly skilled, local communicator. These are top-notch community leaders known for their professionalism, kindness, and ability to engage meaningful conversation among people.
Our honorable moderators are communication consultants, counselors, actors, attorneys, judges, faith leaders, university professors, negotiation experts. They are all volunteers, leaders, proven communicators, locally renown and loved for their ability to guide and inspire multifaceted conversation with intelligence. They are skilled at provoking thought and encouraging collaboration on issues that affect our town.
At VillageSpeak we become better informed about local issues, and we also learn and practice consensus-building, communication techniques, applicable to family, career, community.
We meet and engage with our local leaders in a social, comfortable, person-to-person setting. Bainbridge Island is small, we are special, we make education a priority, we are achievement directed. Our values build our Island?s future, and imbue Bainbridge with the wisdom and leadership needed to build strong community. We have what it takes to be leaders, world-wide.
Meeting, connecting, and collaborating, these are VillageSpeak goals. Friendships, community connections, family support systems. This is VillageSpeak, a place to share ideas, unwind, make long lasting friendships, to connect with our town leaders and better protect our families and village. No townie is an Island.
