A developing storm with considerable moisture will race out of New Mexico and Texas and into the Plains. Widespread rain is expected from eastern Texas through Illinois and Iowa. There also will be a chance of thunderstorms along the cold front, mainly in eastern Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe and a slight chance for severe weather could possibly mean intense winds and large hail in some areas. In addition, there is a slight risk of tornadoes. Residents in this area should monitor the storm's progress.

Elsewhere, a Pacific storm will move into the Northwest, renewing rain and high-elevation snow as far south as Central California. This will be the first storm in a series that will keep wet weather in the forecast for the West Coast for much of the upcoming week.

Warmer temperatures are expected in the Northeast as cold air will be pushed out of the area. The readings in the Northeast will rise into the 40s, 50s and some 60s. Temperatures in the Southeast will reach the 60s, 70s, and some 80s, while the Plains will see temperatures in the 60s, 70s, and 80s in Texas. The Northwest readings will rise into the 30s in the higher elevations, and into the 40s elsewhere.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states ranged Saturday from a morning low of -7 degrees at West Yellowstone, Montana, to a high of 86 degrees at Fort Myers, Fla.
